How the answer works
- FLIP: you keep at least $5 a piece after fees and costs.
- CLOSE CALL: you keep $1 to under $5. Worth it only if it sells fast.
- SKIP: under $1, or a loss.
What it cost you means what the item really cost, delivered: the price, shipping to you, any import duty, and its share of a lot. It's an estimate, never a promise of profit.

Sales tax isn't in the math. eBay, Depop, Whatnot, Facebook, Etsy and Grailed also take their cut of the tax the buyer pays, so your real fees there are a little higher.
Questions
- How does Flip or Skip decide FLIP, CLOSE CALL or SKIP?
- It takes each site's fees and everything the piece cost you off the selling price. If you keep at least $5 a piece, it's a FLIP. From $1 to under $5 is a CLOSE CALL. Under $1 is a SKIP.
- Which fees are included for each site?
- The selling, payment-processing and per-order fees for Poshmark, Mercari, eBay, Depop, Whatnot, TikTok Shop, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, Grailed, Vinted and OfferUp (local), for US clothing, each checked on Sep 28, 2026. The table on this page shows every one with its source. Sales tax isn't included.
- What does the China duty question do?
- Every package from abroad now pays US import duty; the old under-$800 exemption is suspended. If you didn't pay import fees at checkout, Flip or Skip adds an estimate: about 37% of what you paid for cotton clothing made in China, or about 52% for polyester (checked Sep 28, 2026). You can change the rate. It's an estimate, not customs advice.
- Can I check a whole lot, not just one item?
- Yes. Choose "A whole lot", enter what the lot cost and how many pieces are in it, and it works out the cost of each piece. Under Fine-tune you can say how many you expect to sell: the ones that don't sell still have to be paid for by the ones that do.
- What price do I need to make it worth it?
- Every site's result shows the lowest price that breaks even there, and the lowest that makes it a FLIP (at least $5 profit a piece), after that site's fees and your costs.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Checking is free, as many times as you like, with no sign-up. If you buy the lot, you can save it and log each sale to see when it has paid for itself. Saving is free and includes 14 days of sale tracking with no card. After that, tracking is part of the Reseller Pack: $9.99 a month or $99 a year, cancel anytime online.
- Is what I type saved or shared?
- Checks aren't: the math runs on your own phone or computer and nothing you type into it is sent to us. If you save a lot, we keep that lot, its sales and your email so you can get them back on any device, and we never share them. The sold-price buttons open eBay, Mercari or Poshmark with the words you typed.
- Does it list or cross-post for me?
- No. Flip or Skip tells you whether to buy, where to sell and what to charge. You list the item yourself.
